The Other Place by Monica Hughes

Hughes presents another outstanding novel in relevance to a modern idea she seems to favour; “The Other Place” has a distinct relation to one of her earlier works, “Invitation to the Game”, also an amazing story. This creation is based around the precedents of our future world and the advancement of mind-blowing technology. Find yourself in the modified society of the twenty-second century, where the World Government controls everything and everyone. Here, there is no deficiency of government conspiracy or terrifyingly new opportunities. If Science-fiction is your forte, this is a definite must-read book.

SCHOOL BUS TRANSPORTATION

IMPORTANT CHANGES FOR 2010/11

FEE FOR SERVICE

Effective September 2010, all riders, except specific overflow (forced cross catchment) students, must pay to ride a school bus to and from school for regularly scheduled classes. This service will be provided for registered riders to and from catchment area schools and special routes approved by the Superintendent. Families will be charged $200.00 per child to a maximum of $600.00 per family for transportation.

Partial rates will not be considered for one-way trips or partial weeks as seats are reserved on a full year basis.  Trying to make adjustments on a daily or weekly basis would be prohibitive.

Payment

A letter will be mailed to all current registered riders before the end of May with details on payment including information on the secure on-line credit card payment system (recommended).  Payment arrangements will need to be made by June 30, 2010 in order to reserve a seat.

If payment arrangements are not made by June 30, 2010, the students’ reserved seat may be assigned to a student on the waiting list. Should a parent change their mind after June 30, they will be required to complete a new Transportation Registration Form (see registration below).

Financial Hardship

In cases of financial hardship, a request for waiver of fees must be made through the School Principal or Student Services (located at the School District Office).

Registration

All new riders are required to register and must do so by June 17, 2010.  Registration forms will be available on-line at www.sd33.bc.ca, at the School, School District Office and the Transportation Department (44877 Yale Road West). The Transportation Department will be open during the summer break for registration of new students or students with a new address.

For further information, please visit the School District website at www.sd33.bc.ca and click on the Transportation Link or call the Transportation Department at 604.792.1255.

For payment questions, please call the School District Office at 604.792.1321.

The Blue Girl by Charles de Lint

If you are a lover of fantasy fabrications, this modern plot will sweep you away and once more have you believing in the fairytale magic hiding away within the shadows and dark corners of the world. This wild adventure is directed by the feisty, unique attitude of Imogene and her sheltered ally, Maxine. While magic may be a spectacular new wonder, it was never meant to be harmless—be warned; but its mystique will keep you hooked until the very last page.
